About Deborah L McFarlin
Deborah L. McFarlin is an American painter and photographer currently living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She grew up in Salisbury, MD and graduated college with a liberal arts degree from Washington College in Chestertown, MD. Initially Deborah pursued a career in social work but in a matter of a few short years she decided to return to school to pursue her true passion, art. She graduated magna cum laude from UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) with a concentration in painting and later earned her Master's degree from George Mason University's Visual Information Technology (VIT) program. She retired in 2017 after working in the Digital Media field for thirty years, most recently as the Senior Interactive Designer for Amtrak.com.
Nature is an endless source of fascination and wonder and it provides the inspiration for most of Deborah's work. She loves being outside observing the natural world in all its complexity and glory. She transforms those powerful experiences into thoughtful works that reflect nature's beauty, fierceness and peacefulness. It's Deborah's hope that her work helps people learn to respect, protect and embrace the natural world.
There is a long list of artists who have influenced Deborah's work but here are some of the more prominent ones: Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Vincent van Gogh, Albrecht Durer, Georgia O'Keeffe, Paul Klee and Edward Hopper.
Deborah has shown her work in several galleries including: Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery, Baltimore, MD | Gillespie Gallery of Art, Fairfax, VA | Academy Art Museum, Easton, MD | A.M.Gravely Gallery, St. Michaels, MD and the St. Michaels Library Gallery, St. Michaels, MD.
